WICHITA FALLS ( KFDX/KJTL ) — Young entrepreneurs from around Wichita Falls are steps closer to reaching their many goals after showing off their businesses at the Downtown Wichita Falls Farmers Market today.

The young entrepreneurs showcase took to the farmers market at 8th and Ohio this morning. Young business owners throughout the morning sold different goods and ideas with a specific goal in mind.

Some kids wanted to save up for a school trip to Washington, D.C., while others wanted to buy a new piano or send themselves to summer camp. All of their goods were handmade or, in some cases, crafted by their own machines.

Regardless of the goal in mind, Jenny Ford with Wichita Falls Downtown Development was impressed with the business skills each kid could take away from the showcase.

"That's not something you really think of as a kid. You have everything paid for by your parents, or you work a side job once you get a little older," Ford said. "But at this age, it's really important for them to understand where money comes from and how you can earn it and work hard."

Behind the scenes with Wichita Falls Downtown Development were MSU Texas and the Small Business Development Center.

For the first time, the Texoma Community Credit Union also volunteered as a sponsor and advisor for the kids' businesses.

Kids from ages 6-18 competed by selling everything from food to art, even 3D prints. Awards were given out to the best businesses, but each one received advice from local business leaders as well, all to help grow the next generation of business leaders in Wichita Falls.
