Youngstown community rallies against violence

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — Youngstown had its 14th annual Nonviolence Parade and Rally on Sunday.

Hundreds marched downtown to the Youngstown Foundation Amphitheater to take a stand against violence, with groups of Youngstown State University students represented. First News senior reporter Gerry Ricciutti was a parade judge.

Participants read the names of victims of violence aloud, including local children such as Rowan Sweeney. The four-year-old died in his mother's arms when he was shot and killed during a home invasion in 2020.

There will be more nonviolence events throughout the Valley this week for Ohio Nonviolence Week.

Gerry Ricciutti contributed to this report.
