Cowtown Mayor Joins Left-Wing Advisory Committee
Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker has joined the inaugural advisory committee for Girls Inc., an organization that advocates leftist ideology.
As previously reported by The Dallas Express , the Tarrant County Commissioners Court voted in October to stop funding the non-profit organization, as it promotes abortion and transgender ideology. The county had funded Girls Inc. since 2007.
The advisory committee includes local leaders such as Arlington Mayor Jim Ross, Tarrant County Commissioner Roy C. Brooks, and former Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price, according to a news release from the City of Fort Worth.
Parker stated that Girls Inc. is investing in the future of girls.
"Fort Worth is full of bright, capable young women, and when we come together to invest in their futures, their potential is limitless. I am glad to join in Girls Inc. of Tarrant County's work to champion our girls and help put them on paths to successful futures," Parker said.
Girls Inc. has previously promoted the commemoration of International Pronouns Day and Pride Month.
"We want to support every young person to be themselves and express their identity authentically," the post about International Pronouns Day reads.
Girls Inc. also condemns the Supreme Court ruling overturning Roe v. Wade.
"This ruling overturned Roe v. Wade, the almost 50-year-old law ensuring a constitutional right to abortion and limited a state's right to interfere with abortion access. Without these protections, access to abortion care is based on where you live. Today, young women will come of age with fewer rights than their mothers and grandmothers," the organization's document on Youth and Reproductive Rights read.
The nonprofit also places a special emphasis on combating "systemic" barriers to success for young women.
"Girls Inc. is committed to advancing the rights and opportunities of girls, young women, and all youth, with a particular focus on the needs of girls from underserved communities, girls of color, and LGBTQ+ youth. Informed by the voices of the girls we serve, and working alongside them, we advocate for policies and practices that combat systemic racism, sexism, and other social and economic barriers to girls' success," the document reads.
Local leaders have criticized the mayor's move.
"Most people see Fort Worth as a conservative stronghold, honoring and protecting our values. That is why it is so disappointing to see our Republican mayor supporting an organization that celebrates killing babies and the Marxist agenda of 'Pride' month. Fort Worth is at a crossroads. May 2025 will be our chance to course correct," Tarrant County GOP Chairman Bo French told DX.
Other leaders see this as a positive work for girls.
"I'm honored to work alongside these regional leaders to build upon Girls Inc. of Tarrant County's years of success in empowering young women in our community. We are better when we work together to remove barriers and create meaningful opportunities for our residents from all backgrounds to achieve their American dream," Mayor Jim Ross said, per Fort Worth Report.
The Dallas Express reached out to Parker for comment but did not receive a response.
