Barbie released in honor of EGOT winner Rita Moreno
Toy maker Mattel is releasing a doll honoring Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony (EGOT) winner Rita Moreno, a prominent Latina actor.
"Rita Moreno has long been a star on-stage, and a heroine in real life. As the first Latina to win the venerated EGOT prize, and a fiercely outspoken advocate for representation, her most important role to date is being the role model she never had," the official Barbie account said Tuesday in a post on Instagram .
"Barbie is proud to honor the actress and activist as the newest doll in the Barbie Tribute Collection, inspiring future generations to step into the spotlight," the post continues.
Moreno, beyond her EGOT status, became a Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient back in 2004, according to a webpage from President George W. Bush's White House.
In a comment on the Barbie Instagram post featuring her doll, Moreno said, "I know her!!!"
Late last month, Moreno and other Puerto Rican stars, including singer-songwriter Lin-Manuel Miranda and singer Ricky Martin, decried the "willful ignorance" of a rally by President-elect Trump in New York City.
