SILVER LAKE – Filson, an American heritage clothing brand , is opening their its Southern California location in Silver Lake on Friday, June 28.

Filson was founded in 1897 in Seattle, originally aimed to outfit those headed for the Yukon, a Canadian territory, during the Klondike Gold Rush. Popular among explorers and outdoor enthusiasts, Filson's products are known for their durability .

Products range from durable jackets, sweaters, shirts to caps and luggage. They use signature materials such as Mackinaw wool and tin cloth.

Neil Morgan, vice president of Retail at Filson, expressed excitement about the brand's new presence in Los Angeles.

"It's taking the Pacific Northwest into LA," he said. "We're very proud of our home and our heritage and where we started this brand, and why we started the brand here in Seattle."

Morgan added that Los Angeles is one of Filson's top three markets.

"I think L.A. is a very diverse community," he said. "You have people in tech and art and entertainment and hospitality, so I think it's really opening us up to a wide variety of customers."

Another important element for Filson is connections to the music industry, according to Morgan.

Filson has collaborated with high-profile stars including country singer Chris Stapleton. Actor Cole Hauser wore Filson clothes in the television series Yellowstone. Other celebrities who have worn the brand include Tom Cruise, Jeremy Allen White and Tom Selleck.

"You've got to understand what Mackinaw wool is, what tin cloth is and realize that is what our company stands by: high quality premium goods," he said.

"You buy something from Filson and it's something that you can take with you and pass down to your kids and maybe even your grandkids," he said. "Filson is a brand that is more than just a fad or a trend, but really timeless."

Filson is always looking for new markets and new opportunities.

"Markets that we are looking at for the future include Denver and Nashville, among others," Morgan said. "So [we] definitely want to look at those when they come and when it makes sense for us."

Filson will also be launching a women's wear line in the fall, according to Morgan.
