Investigators were still trying to determine the cause of the fire.SOUTHFIELD, MI — An elderly woman died and four others were injured in a massive fire that destroyed part of an Oakland County apartment complex Monday afternoon, according to reports.
Fire officials found the 73-year-old woman dead inside the building and three other people suffering non-life-threatening injuries with smoke inhalation, according to reports.
Two were treated at the scene and one was taken to a nearby hospital, according to reports.
The fire happened at 2:15 p.m. at the Le Chateau apartments, located on Southfield Road near 10 Mile Road in Southfield, according to officials.
When firefighters arrived at the complex, they found the massive blaze had spread through the entire attic, causing severe roof damage, according to officials.
The upper two floors suffered the most damage with a total of 32 units damaged or destroyed from the fire, according to reports.
While firefighters battled the blaze, a neighboring unit to the north was also evacuated due to the high winds, according to officials.
It took help from six different fire departments, including Farmington Hills and Birmingham, to put out the blaze, according to officials.
Investigators were still trying to determine the cause of the fire.
