Three people are dead and three people are injured following two separate shootings that originated in Mount Joy early Friday morning and concluded with a high speed chase that ended in Dauphin County with police shooting the suspect in the first shooting and a woman in the car with him.

State Police Lt. Col. George Bivens identified the suspect in the Mount Joy shooting as Ricky Shannon, 22, of Altoona.

That shooting happened around 4:15 a.m. at Terrace Hill Apartments on Main Street.

Biven said Shannon left Altoona early Friday morning and shot four people at Sassafras Terrace, killing one and injuring three.

Shannon and a 19 year old woman left in Shannon's pickup truck and Mount Joy police began chasing the truck.

Ultimately, police were able to stop the truck on a road near the intersection of Route 322 in Reed Township, Dauphin County, using a tactical driving maneuver.

Bivens said Shannon immediately began shooting at police, who returned fire.

When police removed Shannon to give aid, they realized the woman was in the truck, too.

Both were killed.

"Darkness, window tinning and ultimately, airbag deployment from the crash had prevented troopers from knowing there was another occupant in that vehicle prior to that time," Biven said. "It also appears the female occupant was over on the driver's side of the vehicle at the time that the shooting occurred."

Bivens did not release names of the victims. He said Shannon and the 19 year old woman had taken PFAs out this month against each other.

The shootings are being investigated by authorities in Dauphin and Lancaster counties.
