Man found unconscious on Bradenton road dies, police investigating ‘suspicious death’
A man died a week after being found injured and unconscious in a West Bradenton neighborhood, and detectives say they're investigating "suspicious" circumstances that led to his death.
The Bradenton Police Department says Sherrone Jackson, a 27-year-old Sarasota County resident, was dropped off by a ride-share service around 10:45 p.m. on Oct. 29 near the intersection of 68th Street West and 12th Avenue West. Police say he intended to pick up a spare key left in the mailbox of a nearby home and call another ride-share to return to his Sarasota County home.
But detectives say there's evidence Jackson was still waiting for the ride-share just before midnight, more than an hour after he arrived in the neighborhood.
Nearly two hours later at around 1:45 a.m., police say a passerby found Jackson unconscious near the intersection. Doctors determined Jackson sustained a traumatic brain injury, but the cause is unknown.
Jackson never regained consciousness and died from his injuries on Wednesday, according to a news release.
Detectives say they've launched an investigation into Jackson's "suspicious death."
Police said investigators do not know what caused Jackson's brain injury, but agency spokesperson Meredith Censullo said they may learn more from the Medical Examiner's report.
"All possibilities are being considered, from a tragic accidental death to foul play," Censullo told the Bradenton Herald.
Police say the night Jackson was found unconscious he was wearing black Nike shorts, a white tank top, black slide sandals and a red trucker-style hat with "Badlands" on the front.
