NEW YORK (PIX11)— In a historic election on Tuesday, President-elect Donald Trump won the White House to become the 47th president of the United States.

On Wednesday, his victory was solidified as he took Wisconsin and Michigan, surpassing the 270 electoral votes needed to be sworn into office, according to the Associated Press.

How much did Trump win by?

The Associated Press, which has called the race in his favor, forecasts that Trump currently has 292 electoral votes.

How did he collect his votes:

Trump won his electoral votes by claiming key swing states and states with many electoral votes.

Trump won states with many electoral votes, such as Texas, which has 40, and Florida, which has 30. Trump also took the key swing states of Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan, Georgia, and North Carolina.

" Electoral votes are allocated among the States based on the Census. Every State is allocated a number of votes equal to the number of Senators and Representatives in its U.S. Congressional delegation—two votes for its Senators in the U.S. Senate plus a number of votes equal to the number of its Congressional districts," the National Archive states. "Under the 23rd Amendment of the Constitution, the District of Columbia is allocated three electors and treated like a State for purposes of the Electoral College."

Nevada, Arizona, Alaska, and Maine are still tallying votes.
