1 hospitalized after vehicle crashes into Bridgeport utility pole

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. (WBOY) — One person was taken to United Hospital Center Wednesday evening after a vehicle crashed into a utility pole and shut the road down for several hours.

According to officials with the Harrison County 911 Center, at about 5:44, crews were dispatched to a vehicle accident on Worthington Drive in Bridgeport. Crews on the scene found that one person was injured and that the vehicle had completely severed the pole.

Officials with the City of Bridgeport posted on social media that the area of Worthington Drive between the 500 block and E Philadelphia Avenue will be closed until 3 a.m. Thursday while crews work to re-set a new pole.

Mon Power's outage map reports that as of 8:30 p.m., 529 customers are without electricity in the area of the crash. Officials ask that drivers avoid the area while crews work to restore power.

Crews with the Bridgeport Police Department, as well as with Bridgeport Fire and EMS responded to the call.
