3 injured in West Side apartment fire; investigation underway
CHICAGO — Three people were injured in an apartment fire on the city's West Side.
The fire broke out shortly after midnight Friday near Cicero Avenue and Ohio Street. The fire reportedly started in the rear of the apartment building.
According to authorities, a 33-year-old man suffered burns to his arms and face and was transported to Loyola Hospital in critical condition.
An 81-year-old man and 64-year-old woman both sustained smoke inhalation and were transported to Mount Sinai Hospital. Both are listed in serious condition.
Tenants told WGN News they believe the fire is suspicious because they heard people arguing in the building just before the fire started. Fire officials have not provided any information that suggests the incident was arson.
The fourteen residents of the building have been displaced. Red Cross is on scene assisting.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. An investigation is underway.
