207,000 Jeep, Dodge SUVs recalled over brake safety device problem
T.Lee3 hr ago
DETROIT - Stellantis announced a recall Wednesday of 207,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango SUVs because of an issue that previously required a recall. According to the Associated Press, the recall impacts certain 2018 and 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango SUVs that could be equipped with a brake control computer that can falsely read brake pressure. If a false reading happens, the vehicle's computer may disable safety features such as the anti-lock brakes and electronic stability control. The computer can also illuminate the brake lights and let the driver shift out of park without putting a foot on the brake pedal, according to documents posted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Those issues may cause unintended movements for the driver. So far the company is aware of 533 warranty claims related to the problem. As of Wednesday, the company was still developing a fix for the issue and plans on contacting affected owners starting Thursday. Stellantis says the same models that are part of this recall were recalled in 2022 for a similar issue, however that recall did not correct the brake light or antilock brake and electronic stability control issues, the AP reports. According to the NHTSA, all the vehicles involved in the 2022 recall will need to be repaired once again. Anyone with questions regarding the recall can contact Stellantis customer service at 1-800-853-1403.READ MORE: GM recall impacts several trucks and SUVs including Silverado, Escalade, and Yukon models Multiple defects lead to recall of over 150,000 Mazda CX-70 and CX-90 models Chrysler recalls 33K Ram 1500 trucks over stability control issues Honda announces 2nd major recall this month, is your car part of latest 700K at risk?
