CLEVELAND (WJW) — The FOX 8 I-Team has found mystery still surrounding the computer hacking at Cleveland City Hall three months after the attack.

We found the city not finished investigating. And, we also found the city not able to say, yet, for sure, whether or not the computer hackers got into any of your information.

Back, in June, computer hackers hit Cleveland City Hall in a ransomware attack . So, we checked back to ask if the suspects got into any taxpayer records.

The mayor's office says the city is sure of three areas that were not touched. No impact on records with taxation, utilities or water.

After that, though, the mayor's office wrote in an e-mail, "While most of the investigation is complete, some elements are still in process. Allowing access to some of the details could negatively impact the city's cybersecurity posture."

So, we also went back to Trusted Sec, a NE Ohio-based cybersecurity company.

We asked, "After three months, what should taxpayers be expecting the city to be doing, now, to prevent this from happening again?"

"There is a baseline list of things organizations need to do. But, just by doing them doesn't guarantee you won't have an incident," Alex Hamerstone said, "So, I think, understanding where the important data is, and then, really focusing the controls and protections on that. Making sure, looking at that is going to be essential."

The mayor's office also said the city hopes to learn more as the investigation progresses. We plan to follow up again.
