NAUGATUCK, CT — Three Naugatuck letter carriers received a "Million Mile Award" from the National Safety Council at a recent post office award ceremony.
According to a news release provided by the United States Postal Service, the three awarded letter carriers have driven 3 million miles combined without an accident.
Honored at the ceremony were Naugatuck letter carriers Michael Eureka (31 years of service), Augusto Lopes (31 years of service) and Raymond Lesko Jr. (34 years of service).
All three were presented with a plaque from the National Safety Council by Postmaster Brian Falcha, alongside Supervisor Customer Service Fernanda M. Alves.
The NSC Million Mile Award recognizes drivers with 1 million miles of driving or 30 accumulated years driven without preventable incidents. For reference, 1 million miles is roughly equivalent to two trips to the moon and back, according to USPS.
The Million Mile Club is part of the Safe Driver Award program created by the National Safety Council. The Safe Driver Award is the trademark of the expert driver and is recognized as the nation's highest award for professional safe driving, according to USPS.
Naugatuck Post Office, located at 170 Water Street in Naugatuck, serves a local population of over 30,000 residents.
