2 Oley Valley School Board members resign

The Oley Valley School Board is down another two members.

At a meeting Wednesday, the school board approved the resignations of Vice President Aaron Keller and Sharon Kershner.

The resignations are the latest in a handful of departures of top district officials this year.

Former board President Zachary Fatkin, board member Benjamin Raker and former superintendent Dr. Gina Finnerty resigned in March.

Keller and Kershner did not attend the meeting Wednesday and could not be reached for comment.

Board President Jamie Freed said neither Keller nor Kershner expected their terms to end early.

"I caution anyone who tries to read into their resignation as something more than it is," Freed said. "Both have resigned for deeply personal reasons, and I will respect their privacy. I wish them both well."

The board unanimously approved both resignations.

The district's earlier resignations were for a variety of reasons.

Finnerty left to take a position at the Quakertown School District in Bucks County, and Raker resigned because he was moving out of the district.

Finnerty was replaced by Aaron Weston, whose appointment to superintendent was approved in a 5-4 vote in September.

Weston's appointment was opposed by some residents who said they were concerned about his lack of credentials and community ties relative to other superintendent candidates.

Keller voted against Weston but said before the vote that he would stand behind Weston's appointment if that is what the board chose.

Kershner voted in favor of Weston.

Fatkin and Raker were replaced by Christina Moyer and Zachary Moore.

Moyer's appointment, which Keller opposed but Kershner supported, also generated controversy, with some residents taking issue with Nazi imagery painted on Moyer's garage door.

Moyer was censured by the board and has since apologized for the extremist images.

She said she is not a racist or extremist and painted over the images when she bought the property but that the paint had faded after years of sun exposure.

The board did not take action or provide information Wednesday on appointing new members.
