RIDGEFIELD, CT — If you're like many of your Ridgefield neighbors, you may spend a good part of the holiday season with your credit card in hand buying gifts for family and friends. Coming up soon is a chance to give back to the local community.

Giving Tuesday , which in 2024 falls on Dec. 3, is a day dedicated to supporting nonprofit and community groups. Since 2012, nonprofits worldwide have used the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to galvanize fundraising, rally volunteers and add momentum to their causes.

Maintaining funding is a constant challenge for many nonprofits that fill gaps and meet other needs in the Ridgefield area.

Here are five local nonprofits to consider getting behind on Giving Tuesday:

  • Ridgefield Operation for Animal Rescue (ROAR) has placed about 6,000 neglected and unwanted cats and dogs in caring homes throughout Ridgefield and surrounding towns since 2005.
  • Cornerstone Home & Gardens, Inc. provides real-life work opportunities in the areas of gardening, farming, building and grounds maintenance, landscape design, and public relations for people with autism and related disabilities.
  • Rides for Ridgefield provides information and rides to Ridgefield seniors and residents with mobility disabilities.
  • The Prospector Theater provides employment to people with disabilities through the operation of a premium, first-run movie theater.
  • The Ridgefield Guild of Artists promotes the visual arts and arts education by providing gallery space for exhibition, art classes for children and adults, opportunities for artist-in residency programs, and art lectures and community events.
