An alleged motor vehicle theft ended with a Colorado Springs man getting hit with a Taser and arrested Wednesday night.

Just before 10:15 p.m., Colorado Springs police officers were near North Chestnut Street and Fillmore Avenue when they located a stolen truck with two occupants.

The driver, later identified by police as Dante Cedillo, attempted to drive away from officers but struck a tree stump, leaving the truck inoperable. Cedillo then tried to flee on foot, abandoning the female passenger in the truck.

A 40mm less-than-lethal tool was deployed by police but when it was deemed ineffective, a Taser was used, according to the department's blotter entry Thursday morning.

Cedillo was placed into custody and later evaluated at a local hospital due to the injuries he sustained when he was struck with the 40mm round and the retaining wall he hit while running.

Cedillo was booked into the El Paso County Jail on motor vehicle theft charges. He was still listed in custody as of Thursday afternoon. His next court date is Friday for advisement on his new charges.

The female passenger was identified and released.
