July 4th festivities were held throughout Southeast Minnesota despite the intense heat. Over 20,000 people gathered at Lake City on the banks of Lake Pepin to watch the annual Water Carnival. Jean Sass was selected as Queen of the Carnival.The American League All-Star baseball team has been selected. An alleged gambler was arrested by police in Mayo Park.
