26 YO Star Expresses Her Gratitude Joining Cameron Brink Less LA Sparks During Struggling Phase

The Los Angeles Sparks are currently in their rebuilding mode and choosing Cameron Brink as the second overall pick in the 2024 draft definitely helped the cause. In the opening month of the 2024 WNBA season, they were showing signs of being playoff contenders. However, after multiple injuries throughout their schedule, especially with their rookie out for the season, the team is slowly losing grip of the hanging rope. But can they avoid picking a franchise record of a 8-game losing streak by signing Crystal Dangerfield?

In her first media availability for LA, Dangerfield opened up about how she plans on turning the tides for the team. She said, "Helping on defense, bringing the energy, pushing the ball, and getting easy baskets. I like to make the game as easy as possible. That's what my game is. That's what I'll try to do here with this team."

Curt Miller has signed the 2020 Rookie of the Year on a 7-day hardship contract. It is in effect as the Sparks are missing 3 of their primary players. Cameron Brink is out for her entire rookie season due to an ACL tear in her left foot, Lexie Brown continues to fight the symptoms of Crohn's Disease, and Azura Stevens is nursing her left arm. Seems like the UConn alum was their best bet with her record in the ledger.

Can Crystal Dangerfield become a substitution for Cameron Brink in the Sparks? The Minnesota Lynx drafted the 5-ft-5 guard as the sixteenth overall pick back in 2020. Beating all odds, she swept away the ROY award with an impressive 16.2 points per game. However, with a drop in her numbers, she was traded in her third year. Since then, Dangerfield has played for six teams in the league in her 5-year professional career. Interestingly, two of the teams include the Atlanta Dream and LA in this very year.

Talking about the importance of making her potential known this season, she opened up on her aim, "Showcasing me. I haven't been able to do that in recent years. Recently, this year." She also added how she can make a lasting impact on Curt Miller by mentioning, "The first thing that they said to me was it's going to be a lot of ball screen action and that's something I'm really successful in. Getting shots for myself, getting shots for my teammates, easy looks, so that, being defensive past. Things like that I'm gonna always bring wherever I go."

After quite a few games now, the LA Sparks will go on the floor with 10 active players. However, to avoid another loss, they will have to win over the 2x reigning champs– the Las Vegas Aces.
