A Month After 4-Year-Old's Stabbing, Passaic Co. Officials Arrest And Charge Woman
The child was hospitalized on Aug. 23 after being stabbed multiple times at a residence in Paterson, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office. First responders took the victim to Saint Joseph's University Medical Center, and the child was listed in stable condition.
Officials identified Mabel Campechano as the suspect, and charged her with first-degree attempted murder, third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, third-degree endangering an injured victim, and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.
Campechano was arrested on Monday and is in custody at the Bergen County Jail, according to the Passaic Prosecutor's Office and Paterson Police. Prosecutors will file a motion to keep her detained pending trial.
Authorities did not disclose the relationship between Campechano and the child.
