A new resource for Huntsville’s children in mental health crisis

E.Nelson26 min ago
The opening of a crisis center for children means youth in and around Huntsville will soon be able to access mental health interventions closer to home.

Gov. Kay Ivey and other local and state dignitaries cut the ribbon on WellStone Emergency Services' new Pediatric Unit at 4020 Memorial Parkway SW. When it begins taking patients this month, the 12,000 square foot, 24-bed facility will be the first 24/7 standalone crisis care center for children in Alabama.

Calling mental health services a "top priority" of her administration, Ivey lamented the hundreds of youth she said must be driven hours at a time to access crisis care.
