A snapshot of how Saginaw County voters cast their ballots on Election Day 2024

SAGINAW COUNTY, MI — Saginaw County voters cast marginally more ballots this general election than they did in 2020, though the percentage of participants slightly dipped. The Tuesday, Nov. 5, election saw voters cast 104,553 ballots across Saginaw County's 76 precincts. That's a slight increase of 540 or (0.5%) from 2020's general election turnout of 104,013, which was itself an 8% increase from 2016's 95,604. The county has 160,940 registered voters, meaning 64.9% participated this time. Turnout was 66.3% in 2020, when the county had 156,856 registered voters. This year, more threw their lot behind Republican candidate Donald J. Trump, giving him 52,907 votes to Democrat Kamala D. Harris' 49,498, a difference of 3,409. Democrat Joe Biden received 303 more votes from Saginaw County than Trump in 2020. Trump received 1,074 more votes than Democrat Hillary Clinton in 2016. Democrat Barack Obama won Saginaw County in 2008 against John McCain and in 2012 against Mitt Romney. In the race for a hotly contested U.S. Senate seat, only two votes separated incumbent Democrat U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin, D-Holly, from Republican challenger Mike Rogers. Slotkin received 49,652 votes while Rogers garnered 49,654. By contrast, more Saginaw County voters supported Democrat Kristen McDonald Rivet's bid for 8th Congressional District than they did Republican Paul Junge. Rivet received 51,825 votes to Junge's 45,774. In the county sheriff's race, incumbent Democrat William L. Federspiel won with 58,329 votes to Republican challenger Jason Wise's 41,896. Saginaw County voters divided their ballots when it came to electing candidates to the State House of Representatives in Districts 71, 94, and 97. In District 71 , Republican and former Shiawassee County Sheriff Brian BeGole received 3,282 votes to Democrat Mark D. Zacharda's 2,053. Likewise, Republican Matthew Bierlein received 15,942 votes to Democrat Mark Putnam's 6,827 in District 97 . Yet the District 94 race saw incumbent Democrat Amos O'Neal garner 28,348 Saginaw County votes compared to Republican challenger Robert E. Zelle's 12,816.
