The Duchess of Edinburgh looked effortlessly elegant as she arrived to make planned contact with the International Space Station in Surrey today.

Mother-of-two Sophie, 59, wore a fitted blazer and bold, turquoise trousers as she visited the Brooklands Motor Museum in Weybridge.

Her visit, with the Girl Guides, was part of her efforts to promote the involvement of young women in STEM - science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

The trip included planned contact with the International Space Station, and Sophie - who is the patron of Girl Guiding in the UK - was clearly thrilled to be involved.

The Duchess was pictured speaking to the International Space Station during her visit to the museum, appearing to read some pre-prepared words.

And Sophie dressed up for the occasion, pairing her brown, fitted blazer with a white and cream striped jumper. She kept her hair in a simple, sleek style, and opted for simple make up.

It's been a busy week for the Duchess, who yesterday enjoyed a light-hearted moment during a visit to a military camp in Wiltshire.

In her role as Royal Colonel, Sophie, 59, presided over a homecoming parade for the 5th Battalion of The Rifles in Bulford, following a six-month deployment in Estonia.

In what became a shared joke between Sophie and a member of the battalion, the duchess plucked a spider off the soldier's shirt before they exchanged smiles with each other.

The duchess, who is set to make an appearance on CBeebies Bedtime Story segment next week, opted to repurpose one of her closet staples for the visit to Picton Barracks.

The mother-of-two first wore a purple and pink coat-dress from one of the royal family 's favourite designer brands, Erdem, as she inspected the parade on Friday.

Fans will remember she first wore the dress nearly seven years ago, when Sophie joined the royal family for its Christmas service in Sandringham in 2017.

She recycled the botanical print, ankle-skimming design during an official visit to Latvia with her husband Prince Edward in 2018.

Not just Sophie, the Princess of Wales and the Duchess of Sussex are reportedly both fans of the British designer Erdem Moralioglu, who founded his eponymous high-end designer label.

For her visit to Picton Barracks on Friday, Sophie wore her hair in an elegant, low bun and kept her makeup fresh and dewy.

She accessorised with dangling earrings that complemented the berry hues of her dress, a dainty gold necklace, and a pair of beige pumps.

During the event, Sophie inspected the Guard of Honour, delivered a speech and chatted warmly with members of the soldiers' families.

In what was an especially heartwarming moment, the royal handed out mini-medals to to the children present at the homecoming parade.
