About Last Night: Fairview, Mead and Broomfield remain undefeated after Week 4 of preps football

From the Boulder, Broomfield and Longmont areas, three local teams remained undefeated in Week 4 of the football season.

Colorado Preps Media's 5A No. 8 Fairview and 3A No. 7 Mead each won in runaway fashion on Friday. Meanwhile, 4A No. 1 Broomfield escaped with a 14-13 win over Legacy in the Broomfield-area schools' first meeting on the football field in five years.

Nearby teams went 6-7 in Week 4 through Friday night. Here are a few notables.

Erie 42, Fort Collins 14: Quarterback Ronin Ward and wideout Donovan O'Brien connected on touchdown passes late in the first half and early in the third quarter as the Tigers snapped a two-game losing streak.

Gavin Lusk added three touchdowns on the ground, including a 63-yard burst. He now has seven rushing TDs on the season.

Erie, which moved up to 5A after winning the 4A title in 2023, is at Broomfield next Friday. Each has two wins in four meetings since 2021.

Broomfield 14, Legacy 13: Colin Torres was the story for Broomfield in Friday's game, rushing for both of the Eagles' touchdowns as they improved to 4-0.

Off the field, touted defensive back Mikhail Benner made some waves on social media when he announced that he will be visiting the University of Colorado this weekend. Benner is currently committed to the Air Force Academy.

In the loss, Kellen Reiser had a 58-yard kick return and an interception.

Legacy (1-3) is at Horizon next Friday. Broomfield is home against Erie.

Fairview 49, Monarch 0: Ki Ellison started the game with 14 straight completions and Fairview shut out Monarch to improve to 4-0.

Ellison finished with more than 300 yards and four TDs through the air before he took a seat in the third quarter.

Toray Davis needed just six offensive touches (four catches, two runs) to amass 149 yards and two TDs. Jordan Rechel had five catches for 106 yards and two scores, while rushing for 35 yards on just three carries.

Monarch (3-2) got 63 passing yards and 22 rushing yards from quarterback Riley Montemayor.

The Coyotes and the Knights will play at Christian Recht Field next week, with Monarch facing Boulder on Thursday, and Fairview hosting Smoky Hill on Sept. 27.

Mead 42, Greeley West 6: The Mavericks posted their most points in a game in two years, improving to 3-0 on the season.

Mead's 42 points were its most since Nov. 4, 2022 when it beat Riverdale Ridge 42-7. Against Greeley West, it scored its 42nd point of the night before the halftime break.

The Mavericks' defense, meanwhile, turned in their third straight impressive performance. They've allowed just 34 points through three games this fall.

Mead is home against Lewis-Palmer next Friday.

Silver Creek 24, Bear Creek 20: Nolan Gaccetta threw for two scores and the Raptors improved to 3-1.

Gaccetta has thrown for seven touchdowns this fall.

Silver Creek is home against Riverdale Ridge next Friday.

Mountain Range 26, Centaurus 0: The Warriors (3-2) lost their second straight game after starting the season 3-0.

Last week, they lost 35-19 to Monarch.

Centaurus has a bye before hosting Cheyenne Mountain on Oct. 4.

Horizon 33, Boulder 0: The Panthers (1-3) were shut out for the second straight week after falling to Fairview 56-0 in Week 3.

They'll look to end their skid at home against Monarch on Thursday.

Palmer Ridge 49, Longmont 14: Freshman Jacob Foot had nine catches for 137 yards and a touchdown as Longmont fell to 0-4 on the season.

Senior Ben Starkel scored his first TD of the season for the Trojans, who trailed 21-0 to 4A's No. 2 team after a quarter.

Longmont is at Thomas Jefferson next Friday.

Pueblo South 48, Skyline 23: Rodrick Hobbs had a team-high seven tackles and rushed for two touchdowns as the Falcons fell to 0-4 on the season.

Chace Hurley rushed for 187 yards on 11 carries for the Colts.

Skyline is at Standley Lake on Thursday.

Wheat Ridge 41, Niwot 0: The Cougars (0-4) fell to 0-4 after another offensive struggle.

Niwot has scored 27 points in four games this season. It has a bye week before traveling to Evergreen on Oct. 3.

Later on Saturday, Frederick was at Montebello, Lyons was at Merino, Justice was at St. Mary's and Prospect Ridge Academy was home against Roaring Fork.
