After Andy Reid Broke His Promise, Tyreek Hill Forced to Ditch Patrick Mahomes’ Chiefs to Make History With Miami Dolphins

Things changed drastically for Tyreek Hill after the Chiefs lost to the Bengals in the 2021 postseason. That was the point when everything would change for Tyreek Hill, some for good, some for worse. The bad part of the whole deal was that Hill was "lied to," and the good part is Hill joined the Dolphins and joined the $30 million club.

Over the years, Hill has been vocal about how he's been backstabbed by the Chiefs. Believe it or not, Andy Reid had something to do with it. But how can an innocent-looking grandpa be capable of lying to one of the fastest men in the league? Tyreek Hill revealed all of that in an episode of The Dive Bar Podcast .

"When it happened, like, I was on the phone with um the chiefs with on the phone with Pat on the phone with you know Coach Reid and all you know we had our conversations about 'oh we going to try to bring you back we're going to try to do this,' and the last conversation that we had the last person I talked to was coach Reid and he was like 'yeah we going to get it done you know because we want you back obviously because like you one of like you one of our playmakers or whatever,' so I'm like bet let's do it," said Hill.

The Cheetah then added, "So, then Miami came into the picture Miami and New York came in the picture and I was like no I'm not trying to get traded nowhere I know I said I love Miami but, I'm not trying to leave bro I'm trying to stay here like what whatever the case maybe I'm trying to stay here. So, but then like New York made a crazy number and I'm like hold on okay then Miami made a crazy number and I'm like bro like if I get a chance to be the highest paid like I got no choice, you know what I'm saying?"

Okay being "backstabbed," might be a bit of a stretch. There's no denying that Mahomes and Reid tried to keep the Cheetah with the Chiefs. New York offered Kansas City the No. 35, No. 38 and No. 69 picks in the 2022 NFL draft, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, but Hill declined and took a record breaking 4-year $120 million extension instead. But how did it get here?

Tyreek Hill was on a 3-year $54 million extension with the Chiefs when he ended and obviously, Hill wanted more after he had helped the Chiefs win a Super Bowl against the San Francisco 49ers in the 2019 season. Strangely, it was his second worst season where he played 12 games and even sustained a chest sternum fracture against the jaguars, per DraftSharks.

Hill played two Super Bowl's with the Chiefs and even lost to Tom Brady's Buccaneers. That brings us to another question. The Kanas City Chiefs are on a back-to-back run and even defeated the 49ers again. Is Tyreek Hill OK with it?

Is Tyreek Hill salty after Chiefs' 2 Super Bowl wins without him? On the surface, Hill seems nonchalant about it. He even shouted the Chiefs out when they won the Super Bowl, saying, "My brothers win it again proud of them boys, even more motivation for us in Miami ." But there still seems to be an underlying feeling of trying to one-up the Chiefs with Miami Dolphins, even though the felicitations were genuine.

He let it all out on the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast. He cleared the air saying he was okay the second time Chiefs won the Super Bowl and holds no qualms against them. He had to get away to Tokyo just to deal with it. There's no doubt that Hill was huge in Chief success, but Mahomes being Mahomes, proved he could still do it. That's a part of his 10-year $450 million contract after all.

"The first year that they went, me and my wife, we took a trip to Tokyo because it was kind of hard for me," Hill said. "I don't want to look at no game, I don't want to look at nothing. She was like 'Babe, let's just go to Tokyo, let's just get away from it and let's do our thing.'" This is what Hill felt when the Chiefs beat the Eagles. But he's come to terms with himself and how things can't always be in his favor.

"The second year, this year when they won, I watched the whole game," Hill said. "I was like 'Y'all got to win this thing.' You feel me? I'm cool now. But the first year it was kind of hard, trying to get over that hump of seeing the guys do their thing out there." See the radical change in the feelings? Might feel good to finally move on. Also, it would be unfair to let this all go without talking about Cheetah's amazing career with the Miami Dolphins.

The Miami speedster completely changed after he set foot in the Hard Rock Stadium. Maybe the weather just suits him, or maybe he doesn't have to pay taxes in Miami. Or maybe Tua has an incredible chemistry with his WR1. Hill starter putting up 1,700+ yard seasons ever since he came to the Dolphins.

He was just short of 1 yard from going 1,800 yards. The only receiver in the history of the sport to have 1,947 yards in a season is Cooper Kupp. Hill could have reached that mark if it weren't for the one game he missed last season, or at least would have crossed the 1,800-yard barrier.

Remember the home game against the Broncos where the Dolphins crushed the Denver team 70-20? If you do, you won't forget the 54-yard pass from Tua to Tyreek that led to a touchdown. That pass broke the NFL record, and nobody saw anything like it. What's even surprising is Tyreek Hill didn't even run the correct route on that play and still broke the record.

Dolphins is his favorite team, always has been. So, playing in your favorite team and breaking records sounds sounds fun.
