Aidan O’Brien to go triple-handed in bid to land his third Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe

The prestigious Longchamp prize, worth a staggering €3million to the winner, has not been a happy hunting ground for O'Brien in recent years and a change of luck is needed.

Since Found last prevailed for O'Brien in 2016 - Dylan Thomas was his first triumph nine years prior to that - the Ballydoyle maestro has been unable to make the top three in the 1m4f event.

Order of St George (2017) and Japan (2019), both fourth, were his best results since then and the Tipperary trainer looks set to saddle a trio of challengers this time around.

Continuous, fifth in this race 12 months ago, and Irish Derby hero Los Angeles look the most likely runners but O'Brien has also left in Luxembourg, Auguste Rodin and Opera Singer.

Auguste Rodin and Opera Singer are unlikely runners, however, with the former being primed for a Japan Cup bid before heading to stud while a tilt at the Prix de l'Opera over ten furlongs is in the pipeline for Opera Singer

"The plan is for Los Angeles to go, but Auguste Rodin has been kept on the go just in case the ground came up on the fast side, which it probably won't," O'Brien said over the weekend.

"Last year I didn't do it and it came up fast, so I said I won't make the same mistake this time. He'll probably be going straight to Japan, unless the ground is going to be quick at Longchamp.

"The plan is for Continuous to go and probably Luxembourg. Kyprios will go for the Cadran."

They won't be the only O'Brien representation either with Aidan's son Joseph set to saddle his first Arc contender in the shape of Al Riffa, which will be partnered by legendary Japanese rider Yutaka Take.

Surprisingly, the David Menuisier-trained outsider Sunway is the only British runner but there is a chance that Ralph Beckett's Bluestocking will be supplemented for the race on Wednesday.

Shin Emperor bids to give Japan their first win in the marquee contest but the home team is a strong one with favourite Sosie bidding to hand Andre Fabre a record-extending ninth win.
