AKRON, Iowa (KCAU) — A student at Akron-Westfield Community School District allegedly said they were going to bring a gun to school, according to an email sent Friday afternoon to parents of Akron-Westfield students.

In the email, the school district said that a student was upset in class Thursday and said they were going to bring a gun to the school.

The school office said it was made aware of the statement and made contact with the student while they were still in the school. The student then left the building while a member of the school administration followed, "maintaining contact with the student until family and law enforcement arrived."

The email to parents states that law enforcement had been involved since the threat had been made. Law enforcement is communicating with the school as officials "continue to monitor the situation and make determinations as a result of these actions. "

The email further states that school officials asked law enforcement to provide additional coverage of the school.

Akron-Westfield CSD concluded by saying that they are taking "every precaution available to help ensure the safety of our students and staff," adding that safety is the top priority.

The district didn't say what class or age the student is or at what time of day the incident took place.

KCAU 9 reached out to the school district for confirmation, but they could not confirm any details. The Akron Police Department also didn't respond.
