Newcastle legend Alan Shearer believes that Magpies full-back Lewis Hall is deserving of a call-up to England 's next squad.

The 20-year-old, who signed from Chelsea for 35million last August has received plaudits for his performances for Eddie Howe 's side this term. The youngster has started seven of the side's 10 Premier League matches and has particularly impressed in matches against Manchester City , Chelsea and Arsenal .

Hall's recent form could see him handed a call-up to Lee Carsley 's final England camp before he is replaced by permanent boss Thomas Tuchel in January. The Three Lions have had an issue with left backs in recent squads, with the long-term injury to Luke Shaw .

His absence led Carsley to field Trent Alexander-Arnold in the position for the first time in his career in the Nations League clash against Finland last month, while Rico Lewis and Levi Colwill have also deputised. But Shearer believes that Hal has done enough to be handed his maiden call-up.

'Lewis Hall is not far away from an England call-up.' The former striker told Betfair. 'If he does get a call-up, he will have deserved it.

'If he doesn't get one this time and he keeps playing the way he is, then it won't be long.

'Lewis is not just knocking - he is banging on the door of the senior team. I watched him closely at the weekend and he had a fantastic game against Bukayo Saka , one of the best players in the Premier League and Arsenal's danger man.

'He had a great game and hardly gave him a kick and rightfully was given player of the match.'

Hall has won five England caps at Under-21s level, and there is a good chance he could earn his first senior call-up when Carsley names his squad on Thursday.

On Tuesday, it was revealed that Tuchel will not influence the selection of England's next squad despite his appointment as the national team's next permanent head coach. It is also understood that Tuchel will not attend next month's World Cup 2026 qualifying draw in Zurich as all parties stick steadfastly to his start date.
