Alexcia Cox outlines plan as Palm Beach state attorney-elect
Alexcia Cox addressed the people of Palm Beach County for the first time as their state attorney-elect, discussing her plans and how she will differentiate herself from her predecessor.
"This was a hard-fought race, and our community embraced experience, trust and respect as our victory affirms that we will continue to seek justice for victims and hold criminals accountable," Cox said.
With all precincts reporting, Cox narrowly beat her Republican challenger, Sam Stern, by less than a percentage point.
They were two of three candidates vying for the job after current Palm Beach State Attorney Dave Aronberg announced he would not seek reelection.
"The reason why our office is so well-regarded is because of its people. And you can see by the turnout here today, there is a great feeling in the office that Alexcia will be the next state attorney who will carry on the progress we've made to continue moving us in the right direction," Aronberg said.
Cox also expounded on her platforms and message, and said she will continue Aronberg's legacy of being tough on crime.
"That's what I've been doing throughout my career. It's telling that law enforcement backed me. You know, what we're talking about doing, public safety in our community, keeping the public safe - all of the public safety members of our community, they backed me," Cox said.
She also talked about how her leadership will differ from Aronberg's, harkening back to her perspective and lived experience.
"Now I have an opportunity to bring all of those things that make me Alexcia and not Dave Aronberg to the leadership of our office. And so, I know that that's going to resonate in how I address crime in our community, how I address our staff and the employees of the office," Cox said.
Over the coming days, Cox says she will be working with Aronberg to discuss a smooth transfer of power and will soon announce a transition team to help her prepare to take office.
