Almost two pounds of meth found during traffic stop in Hopkins County

HENDERSON, Ky (WEHT) – Almost two pounds of meth were reportedly found during a traffic stop in Hopkins County, and three people are facing various drug related charges.

The Hopkins County Sheriff's Office says at 1:34 a.m. Wednesday, deputies saw a black 2016 Lincoln MKZ traveling north on I-69 in Mortons Gap when it reportedly veered into the center of the median before getting back on the road, losing the rear bumper.

Officials state a traffic stop was conducted at the 109-mile marker, and deputies allegedly could smell a strong odor of marijuana. Because of probable cause, three passengers: 42-year-old Dane Branscum, 38-year-old James Scott and 35-year-old Katherine Browning were asked to step out.

A search reportedly turned up a small plastic bag containing a white crystal substance in between the driver's seat and center console and two large plastic bags with a white crystal substance that weighed about 1.8 pounds. Officials say the two large bags had suspected meth. Drug paraphernalia, a battle of Morphine Sulfate, an unlabeled prescription bottle containing 72 white oblong pills suspected to be Gabapentin, a plastic bag containing a green leafy substance weighing about 18 grams of suspected marijuana, two bags of THC gummies and syringes were also reportedly found.

Branscum, Scott and Browning were all placed into custody before deputies state more paraphernalia, a small bag of more white crystal substance and a large amount of U.S. currency were on them.

All three were taken to the Hopkins County Detention Center.

Trafficking In Controlled Substance

Drug Paraphernalia

Branscum is being charged with the following:

Reckless Driving

Possession of Marijuana

Trafficking Controlled Substance

Possession Controlled Substance
