ST. LOUIS — The partner of the Alton Police K9 who was shot and killed last month says he hopes to return to work soon.

Officer Allen Averbeck and K9 Odin were involved in a shootout with a suspect on August 22nd. Odin did not survive.

Officer Averbeck credits his vest—and Odin—with saving his life.

He is also giving thanks to the organizations and individuals who have stepped up to support him and the Alton Police Department following Odin's line-of-duty death.

Fox 2's Jasmine Huda spoke with Officer Averbeck and Bobbi Lawson and Tina Bennett, members of Mustache4MarchPD, an organization that has provided equipment and assistance to Alton PD and other metro east police departments.
