Bay Village Historical Society brings back mid-20th century glamour

BAY VILLAGE, Ohio - The Bay Village Historical Society recently hosted a mid-20th century fashion show at Avon Oaks Country Club.

The grand room was filled with "ladies who lunch." They were there not only for the delicious meal, but also to marvel at the beautiful clothing of yesteryear.

Models graced the room in stunning mid-century fashions, captivating the audience with each step.

The event, organized by Pamela Ebert and Monica Thomas, was more than just a fashion showcase. The day also featured raffle baskets, with prizes ranging from Cleveland Browns memorabilia and a pink-themed basket to wine, coffee and even Thanksgiving-themed items.

Attendees could also admire a special display of Ann DiBenedetto's meticulously preserved hat collection.

DiBenedetto, known as the "Heady Lady," was a prominent Bay Village citizen who cherished these stylish pieces.

Her hat collection will soon find a new home with the historical society.

After lunch, guests were treated to a fashion show organized by Dr. Marie Albano and Marie Smith.

The models - including Elaine Carroll, Barb Comienski, Cathy Flament, Ruth Ann Havasi, Jessica Secora, Marie Smith and Monica Thomas - walked gracefully through the crowd, showcasing vintage garments that had been beautifully preserved.

Particular favorites of the afternoon were the "Greta Garbo" fashion, which drew audible admiration from the audience, and a striking mid-century wedding dress that left many in awe of its beauty.

The event was a fitting tribute to Bay Village's rich history, blending fashion, nostalgia and community spirit.
