BLAIR COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — Over the weekend, a Duncansville church hosted a pet blessing to celebrate the bond between people and their beloved animals.

On Sunday, Oct. 6, the Duncansville Evangelical Lutheran Church hosted the blessing to commemorate the Feast of Saint Francis, the Patron Saint of Animals. The event also served a second purpose, which was to help other animals throughout the community.

"The reason we do this event is really as a donation drive for the pet pantry," Derek Detrich said. "Our pet pantry services about 500 cats alone. We are in need of some donations so we bring this event in. It's our big yearly event."

Detrich also highlighted that the pet pantry also accepts donations at the church from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. They will also be collecting donations at the Hollidaysburg's Winterfest Parade.
