Alumnus, family donates millions to Eastern New Mexico University

PORTALES, N.M. (KRQE) – Eastern New Mexico University (ENMU) has received the largest financial gift in the university's history.

ENMU Alumnus, former Greyhound football captain, and ENMU Hall of Honors recipient Steve Loy and his family are donating $2.5 million to the ENMU Foundation to support student-athletes and athletics.

"We are honored by the generosity of Steve and Linda Loy," said ENMU Chancellor James Johnston. "Their significant gift allows us to move forward with initiatives that will positively impact the lives of our student-athletes for generations to come. Steve and Linda, successful ENMU alumni, exemplify the ENMU family spirit as they reach back to bring fellow Greyhounds forward."

  • The money will create one football, one basketball scholarship, and allow the university to endow an assistant coaches' fund. Plus, the donation will help fund a "Leadership Academy" for student-athletes.

    The school said they plan on renaming Greyhound Stadium and Greyhound Arena after the family as thanks for the donation.
