This includes an investment of €3bn last year, Amazon said.

It has also opened six Amazon sites across the country over the past twenty years. This includes data centres, a delivery station in Ballycoolin and a fulfilment centre Dublin's Baldonnell Business Park.

This centre spans 630,000 square feet and opened in 2022.

There are also two corporate offices located in Cork and Dublin.

The company now employs 6,500 people in Ireland across its Amazon and Amazon Web Services (AWS) divisions.

Roles range from entry level positions to skilled positions, such as data engineers, film producers, health and safety specialists and finance professionals.

Amazon also reported that 1,000 Irish small and medium enterprises sell more than 5.5 million products on the platform.

It said that these businesses recorded over €170m in export sales last year. More than half of these sales came from shoppers outside the EU, it claimed.

Earlier this year, Amazon announced that it is set to launch a dedicated online store in Ireland. This site will go live next year.

Amazon.ie will feature a selection of over 100 million products, with shorter delivery times expected for Irish shoppers.

This is supported by a five year agreement signed by Amazon and An Post in 2023.

Shoppers will also be able to secure items without additional customs charges, the online giant said.

"This underscores our continued commitment to Ireland, and will bring a wide selection of great value products with fast delivery to Irish customers, as well as provide great opportunities for small and medium sized Irish businesses to reach a bigger audience at home and abroad," Amazon UK and Ireland country manager John Boumphrey said at the time.
