Andrew Garfield Lets Us Third Wheel His Flirty First Real Fake Date on ‘Chicken Shop Date’

If you've ever had the overwhelming urge to third-wheel someone else's first date, the long-awaited Andrew Garfield Chicken Shop Date episode is here. After two years of flirty red carpet and party encounters between the actor and host Amelia Dimoldenberg, the pair finally sat down for a real fake date to ponder whether it could be something real.

"If this wasn't here, do you think we'd actually have gone on a date?" Garfield asked. The actor first met the host of the popular YouTube series on the red carpet at British GQ's Man of the Year Awards in November 2022. The tension of the interaction made watching their back and forth feel like an invasion of their privacy. They later reunited at the 2023 Golden Globes for another encounter that feigned as though no cameras were rolling.

"This is fucked up — the fact that we could have actually gone on a date at some point, maybe," he said. "Take out all the practicalities and the logic, I actually believe maybe we could have without all of this." The episode feels like it should count as Garfield's third or fourth date with Dimoldenberg. By the seven-minute mark, they were already discussing marriage plans, whether they both wanted children, and their thoughts on having separate bedrooms.

Then Garfield really started to open up, sharing his complicated feelings about industry accolades. He's been nominated at the Oscars twice but lost out both times. "Would you be more attracted to me if I had an Academy Award?" he asked. Garfield had just said that he started to feel as though he should give up on that dream, but when Dimoldenberg answered yes, he started to reconsider. "My longing is back for it," he said. "But then I'm like, trying to please you, and that's fucked up. That's not the kind of relationship I want." Trending

Garfield doesn't want one that plays out too publicly, either. He described Hollywood relationships as being "flash in the pan stuff," but told Dimoldenberg: "I think we'd have a really nice time without the camera. I think we'd just enjoy each other's company. I feel like this should be a practice round. I think we should do it again, actually, and better. This should just be a rehearsal."
