Anheuser-Busch to relight flying eagle sign along I-64

ST. LOUIS – Be on the lookout for a big return. Anheuser-Busch plans to relight its iconic flying eagle sign in St. Louis along Interstate 64 on Tuesday evening.

The lights will shine again on the flying eagle sign at sundown on Tuesday, according to a news release from public relations firm Fleishman Hillard.

After decades of wear and tear, workers fixed the sign from an outage to relight it in November 2022. Sometime between then and now, the sign again went out of service.

The sign that stands today was built in 1953 by Artkraft-Strauss in New York. The sign was originally installed on Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles. It was moved to its current home in St. Louis in 1962.

The eagle part of the sign was designed by animator Bryon Rabbit. The "A&Eagle" measures 25 feet by 33 feet. It originally used neon bulbs that were replaced with LED lights in 2022.

Fleishman-Hillard calls the sign a "time-honored symbol of economic prosperity in St. Louis" and says it will be lit to ring in the spirit of the new holiday season.
