The ANNA Shelter is to the rescue again – this time rescuing injured and neglected dogs.

Ruth Thompson, the founder of the ANNA Shelter, said she got a call from Pennsylvania State Police last Monday night regarding a welfare check in Venango County.

Thompson said five dogs with broken bones and in critical condition were removed first. In total, the rescue involved 20 dogs and nine cats.

"Thankfully all those animals were surrendered, so once they're eligible for adoption, we'll be able to put them up right away. Dr. Ziegler came in for three days and triaged those dogs, and hopefully, by the end of this week, I'll have at least half of them up for adoption," Thompson said.

She added the ANNA Shelter also rescued a puppy on Saturday, Sept. 28, that had suffered chemical burns.

That puppy needed extensive medical care and was sent to a specialty hospital.
