Sports Another Big College Football Upset Almost Happened After Nebraska-Illinois

The Friday night slate in Week 4 did not disappoint. The Nebraska Cornhuskers suffered a stunning overtime upset loss to Illinois in Lincoln.

Then, right before midnight on the West Coast, San Jose State almost did the unthinkable by topping Washington State in Pullman. However, the Spartans' heroic attempt ended in double overtime as the Cougars got the 54-52 lead.

It was a back-and-forth offensive showcase with a halftime score of 24-17 as the Cougars led.

Then, San Jose State scored 21 points in the third quarter before Washington State outscored them 19-8 in the final frame.

With the Spartans giving up 19 straight Washington State points, they were able to score as Emmett Brown connected with TreyShun Hurry with 37 seconds left.

San Jose State took the 46-43 lead, but somehow, someway, Washington State marched down the field and tied it up with a 52-yard field goal as time expired.

As if things couldn't get more whacky, each quarterback tossed an interception in the first overtime period.

The Cougars then marched on and scored a touchdown and the two-point conversion to take the 54-46 lead.

San Jose would respond by scoring a touchdown but coming up short of the game-tying two-point conversion that would've sent the game to triple overtime.

Washington State remains undefeated, and San Jose State leaves Pullman thinking about how close they were to a massive upset.
