Another brush fire flares up near Exeter-West Greenwich line
EXETER, R.I. (WPRI) — With dry conditions expected to continue this week , crews are working to extinguish another brush fire off the highway in Exeter.
The fire broke out Wednesday morning along I-95 South near the Exeter-West Greenwich line.
Firefighters are spraying water in the wooded area nearby, which is impacting the flow of traffic.
Firefighters also returned Wednesday to the woods off of Lydia and Jade roads in Coventry. They're working to make sure a brush fire that burned as much as two acres on Tuesday doesn't flare back up.
All of Southern New England is under a Red Flag Warning due to the high risk of brush fires breaking out . The dry and windy conditions can cause fires to spread rapidly and become difficult to get under control.
According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, most of Rhode Island is in a moderate drought, while Southeastern Massachusetts is between a moderate drought and abnormally dry. A large portion of Massachusetts, including Boston, is in a severe drought.
The current forecast shows we might not get any rain until at least next week.
