SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month and Tuesday was a day of remembrance to honor children lost in a miscarriage or at a young age.

On October 15, people around the world light candles at 7 p.m. local time to honor those lost.

Sioux Falls residents were able to take part at the Arc of Dreams by lighting a candle for 140 Sioux Falls families who lost young children.

It was personal for Oaklyn Foundation founder Jessica Remme.

"I got to write out Gabriel's name for his bag tonight. That one made me cry a little bit because I know he doesn't have parents here, but he has an Oaklynn Foundation family. He has my husband and I and a community. The city did such a good job of remembering him. It was such a huge honor to write his name down," said Remme.

Gabriel James Doe was laid to rest on August 28. The infant's body was found at a recycling facility in north Sioux Falls in early August.

The day also aimed to raise awareness about the emotional and psychological challenges faced by those who have experienced pregnancy and infant loss.
