Area residents vote across the region
Nov. 6—Area residents crowded local polling precincts Tuesday to a cast a ballot for president.
They also shared their thoughts on who they voted for and the voting process in the area.
Carl Osborne said he voted for Republican Donald Trump in hopes of him being able to fix an economic crisis in the country.
"It was pretty smooth. It wasn't too busy. It was well organized," Osborne said of his polling precinct. "I'm voting for Donald Trump. He follows more of my conservative views. His policies, his plans, no tax on social security. I think all our elderly need help with that, and a lot of people around here are struggling financially. Economy ain't the best."
A first time voter, who asked to remaining anonymous, said Kamala Harris was a better fit for the presidency due to policies that are deemed geared toward women and believes decisions that impact women should be from another woman.
"Voting was easy and fast. It was not hard to comprehend as a first time voter," she said. "I just think she (Kamala) stands for what I agree with and the other candidates especially since she is what I would rather have and that is a woman to be the president since I'm a young woman and she stands for what I believe in."
Virginia resident Brenna Buterakos voted at the Bluefield, Va. Town Hall. She described the voting process as smooth.
"It's very smooth," Buterakos said. "Not a whole lot of people here this morning. I honestly forget to do early voting and sometimes earlier voting is more crowded than during the election."
Another first time voter who also asked to remain anonymous said she was voting for Kamala Harris as she believes women in the United States deserve better.
"I think for me I found my independence," she said. "I realized what is important to me and to other women I know."
Kathy and Jimmy Hess hope Donald Trump will end the war between Israel and Palestine occurring in the Middle East.
"I just like him. I think he's better for our country," Jimmy Hess said.
"I'm hoping he could get the prices to come down and stop the war over in Israel," Kathy Hess said.
Another voter who also asked to remain anonymous said she was voting for Trump due to the more conservative lifestyle Trump advocates.
"I like to vote on the same day as I always do," she said. "I never vote early. I voted for President Trump."
The woman said she supported "securing the border."
Another voter who also asked to remain anonymous said he voted for Green Party Candidate Jill Stein.
