The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has extended an invitation to the University of Jamestown to become the league’s 16th full-time member.
The Jimmies will join the NCAA Division II league on July 1, 2025, pending their transition from the NAIA to NCAA Division II. Jamestown will compete in 17 of the league’s 18 sports during the 2025-26 school year.
Jamestown will join the league along with former conference rivals U-Mary and Minot State.
Jamestown is leaving the Great Plains Athletic Conference at the end of this school year and will re-join the NAIA North Star Athletic Conference for next year. The Jimmies have won nine postseason championships in the GPAC since 2018, winning the 2022 NAIA volleyball championship.
The school is expect to begin its transition to Division II by filing its application by the Feb. 1 deadline, beginning a three-year transition. The 2024-25 year will be the Jimmies’ last in the NAIA.
In 2025-26, Jamestown will be included in NSIC team schedule but will be ineligible for NCAA championships. During the third year of the transition, UJ will have provisional membership and will play an NSIC schedule but would not be eligible for NCAA championship competition.
The Jimmies will gain D-II status in the fall of 2027.
