A driver was arrested after he was stopped on Public Square in Wilkes-Barre following an alleged road-rage incident involving a gun in Kingston on Wednesday.
Luzerne County 911 directed Kingston police to Public Square at about 2:52 p.m. in connection with an incident that occurred on Market Street in Kingston minutes earlier, according to a criminal complaint.
Police interviewed Samuel Jacobs, who told them he was heading east on Market Street when a silver-colored vehicle pulled out in front of him from Second Avenue, and he had to swerve around the vehicle to avoid a collision.
Jacobs told police he pulled up next to the vehicle and asked the driver what he was doing, and that the male driver pointed a silver handgun at him, waved it in around the air, put it on his dashboard and headed east on Market Street over the Market Street Bridge and on to Public Square, court papers state.
Jacobs told police he followed the vehicle onto Public Square, where he alerted a Wilkes-Barre police officer on foot patrol to what had occurred.
Police located the vehicle and detained the driver, identified as Louis Boch, 65, of Lincoln Plaza, Wilkes-Barre, in front of the F.M. Kirby Center on Public Square.
Police recovered a loaded .357-caliber handgun, which they say was in plain sight, from inside Boch’s silver Buick.
Wilkes-Barre police transported Boch to Kingston police headquarters for further investigation and processing. Inside the police station, he was overheard telling officers that he did nothing wrong.
Jacobs told police he felt threatened when Boch allegedly pointed the handgun at him, court papers state.
Boch was charged with two counts of simple assault, and one count each of recklessly endangering another person, harassment, disorderly conduct, failing to yield to oncoming traffic when turning left and careless driving. He was arraigned by District Judge James Dixon via video conference.
Unable to post $75,000 straight bond bail, Boch was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility to await a preliminary hearing.
