Arrest made after shots fired into Charlotte apartments injures 2-year-old girl

CHARLOTTE ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — An arrest has been made after shots fired into Charlotte apartments seriously injured a 2-year-old girl, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police announced.

Demetrick McDonald, 19, has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, 20 counts of shooting into an occupied dwelling, and conspiracy.

The shooting happened around 1:40 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, at an apartment complex in the 5000 block of Evoke Living Lane. As CMPD officers arrived at the scene, they saw multiple apartment units had been struck by gunfire. A 2-year-old girl had been shot during the incident and was rushed to the hospital in a CMPD patrol vehicle with life-threatening injuries.

CMPD reported the toddler was listed in stable condition at the hospital.

McDonald is currently being held in the Mecklenburg County Jail without bond.
