Arrest made in year-old murder of UIW cadet in Selma

SAN ANTONIO - An arrest was made overnight in connection to a murder from last year in Selma.

Selma Police brought the suspect tied to the murder of Joseph Banales.

Banales, a senior reserve officer cadet from the University of the Incarnate Word, was shot and killed on Apr. 15, 2023 while driving his vehicle on Interstate 35 North near the Forum at Olympia Parkway.

Banales' body was in the front seat of his car with a gunshot wound to the head. Investigators say it looks like the shot was fired through the driver's side window.

At this time, the exact charges the is facing is not known.
