Arrests made in connection to One Direction singer Liam Payne's death
Authorities announced that three people were arrested and charged in connection to the of former One Direction singer Liam Payne.
Payne fell to his death from a Buenos Aires balcony, according toArgentina's National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor's Office which has been investigating the case.
The prosecutor's office pointed out thatPayne did not jump from the balcony at the "Casa Sur" hotel on October 16. Payne who had in his system likely "not fully conscious or was experiencing a state of noticeable decrease or loss of consciousness" at the time of the fall. Officials stated that Payne also had alcohol and a prescription antidepressant in his system.
Prosecutors also announced on Thursday that for neglect of person followed by death, supply and facilitation of narcotic drugs following several interviews they conducted with hotel staff, family, and medical experts.
None of the suspects were identified in the statement.
Andrés Madrea's allegedthat someone who was with the 31-year-old on a daily basis while Payne was in Buenos Aires was charged with abandoning a person following death.
If convicted that person faces up to 15 years in prison.
The other two people charged are accused of supplying the singer with drugs, including cocaine. The statement identified one of the alleged "narcotics suppliers" as a hotel employee.
Investigators are still trying to collect evidence from one of Payne's devices, which was damaged, and other seized devices.
Payne's body is said to have been released to his father, Geoff, after Judge Laura Graciela Bruniard allowed it.
Payne was a beloved member of the group, which formed in 2010 after its members — Payne, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik — auditioned for "The X-Factor" as solo acts and were brought together by the show. The band became one of the most successful boy bands of all time.
