ArtCenter College of Design is thrilled to announce that Chromacorp has won the Live Action Award at the IndieCade 2024 Festival , making it the third year students from the College's Game Design program have been nominated at the festival, and the second consecutive time winning in this category.

Competing alongside games created by industry professionals, winning the Live Action Award at IndieCade highlights this game's innovative approach to location-based and immersive gameplay.

Following in the footsteps of last year's winning entry also in the Live Action category, Chú Mó , students merged elements from immersive theater and escape rooms as part of the game experience. IndieCade's recognition of Chromacorp underscores its creative impact on the future of interactive storytelling and social engagement in game design.

"Chromacorp exemplifies the dedication to interdisciplinary innovation that defines ArtCenter's Game Design Program," said Christophe Gomez, ArtCenter's associate chair of the program. "Our program prepares students to succeed in today's dynamic game industry, with a focus on creativity, leadership and real-world problem-solving."

Chromacorp offers an immersive, thought-provoking experience, inviting players to confront the ethical dilemmas of a fictional corporate world driven by the global control of color. This game blends engaging mechanics with a rich narrative, pushing players to navigate the dynamics of productivity, subversion, and surveillance in a corporate setting.

In Chromacorp, players are placed in a "dream job" at ChromaCorp, the leading authority in the color industry. But all is not as it seems. Players soon find themselves balancing mundane desk work with acts of rebellion as they discover the company's questionable methods for harvesting color. As they extract colors to meet their daily quotas, they gradually unveil ChromaCorp's dark secrets and are faced with the challenging choice: will they continue their tasks or join with other employees to quietly resist the company's influence?

Chromacorp showcased alongside groundbreaking indie games from around the world at the IndieCade 2024 Festival. IndieCade champions independent game development and fosters global conversation about the future of play, supporting creators and audiences who believe in the power of games to shape society.

Game Design is a curricular track in ArtCenter's Entertainment Design department, which also offers tracks in Concept Design and Animation. ArtCenter's Game Design program prepares students to create and convey game concepts through prototyping and production for multiple platforms. Students explore all aspects of video game design with training in user experience, programming, design languages, and the production process. With a focus on hands-on experience, the program provides students with the opportunity to practice navigating artistic expression, worldbuilding, storytelling and level design.

ArtCenter's Entertainment Design program uniquely culminates in a Bachelor of Science degree, versus a Bachelor of Arts. This distinction underscores the confluence of storytelling, gameplay and visual development alongside the technical rigor required for success.

Graduates of the program are sought out by leading companies such as Pixar, Disney, Dreamworks, Sony Pictures Animation, Blur, 343, Riot Games, Paramount, Activision Blizzard, Santa Monica Studio, Netflix and Marvel. ArtCenter alumni are leaders in the video game, animation, theme park, live-action film/television and toy design industries.
