A former Republican aide has been embroiled in scandal after posting photos online of a supermarket worker in North Carolina without the employee's consent. Jennifer Sloan Rachmuth, 54, of Apex, who previously worked as the campaign manager for a GOP candidate running for state superintendent, was arrested and charged with one count of cyberstalking Sunday after posting photos on X of a Harris Teeter store worker wearing a keffiyeh and calling the employee a ' Hamas sympathizer.' On November 3, Rachmuth posted on X that she had been arrested and suggested the 'North Carolina Democratic Party is involved.' 'I will fight this and continue to fight against antisemitism on campus and in the public square,' she wrote. Police initially said she posted pictures of a stranger online without consent 'for the purpose of terrifying, harassing or embarrassing,' according to documents. In North Carolina, it is illegal to film or photograph of individuals in private spaces. On Tuesday, the charges were dropped against Rachmuth - who identifies herself as an investigative journalist and political commentator in her X profile - the The News & Observer reported. Wake County District Attorney Lorrin Freeman told the outlet Monday that she was filing a motion to dismiss the charge because the allegations did not 'meet the standards of the state's cyberstalking statute.' Rachmuth said she was handcuffed and arrested in front her neighbors and children after the post. 'This is happening too often in America,' she wrote on X. 'I greatly appreciate DA Freeman taking swift, corrective action today.' White taking photos of people without their consent is generally legal in public areas in North Carolina, it is illegal on private property, the Small Business Chronicle reported. This is because the interior of a store is typically viewed as private property, where people have a reasonable expectation of privacy. Rachmuth previously worked as the campaign manager for Michele Morrow, a Republican candidate for the state superintendent seat. She is also the president of Education First, an organization 'fighting for parental rights and against institutional radicalization and sexualization of children.'
