(Shutterstock)MARYLAND — As of 1 p.m. Monday, state authorities said at least four people died in crashes over the Thanksgiving holiday, two of them pedestrians.
Maryland State Police said the four fatal accidents happened between Nov. 22 and Nov. 26. Those crashes were incidents that state troopers handled, and doesn't include any fatal accidents handled by local police officers.
The worst crash on state roads may have been a 10-vehicle collision in Harford County on Thanksgiving Day, although no fatalities were reported from the pileup. The crash was reported at the 75 mile marker of northbound I-95 about 2 p.m. Two people were taken to the hospital.
The multi-vehicle crash temporarily closed all four lanes of I-95. All lanes had reopened by around 4:30 p.m.
Glen Burnie Fatality
Anne Arundel County Police said in a news release that a collision in Glen Burnie killed a pedestrian on Thanksgiving. Kevin Crist, 54, of Glen Burnie , was pronounced dead at the scene by Anne Arundel County Fire Department responders.
The accident was reported about 7:40 p.m. on northbound Ritchie Highway at Kuethe Road in Glen Burnie, according to a police news release. A 2010 Hyundai Tucson was northbound on Ritchie Highway when it struck Crist in the roadway. Authorities said the victim was not in a crosswalk and wore dark clothing, Patch reported.
Frederick County Fatality
Another fatal pedestrian crash killed Henry Alberto Sosa Torres, 17, of Emmitsburg, on Nov. 24, state police said. EMS respondersfrom Frederick County pronounced Torres dead at the scene.
Shortly after 11 p.m, Maryland State Police from the Frederick Barracks received multiple reports of a pedestrian walking in the travel portion of westbound I-70 in Frederick County. Troopers responded to the area and located Torres, who had been struck near New Design Road.
Owings Mills Fatal Crash
A fatal four-vehicle crash occurred about 1 p.m. Nov. 22 in Baltimore County on Interstate 795 North before Westminster Pike. Investigators said a 2011 Ford F150 pickup truck, driven by Lashawn Clarence Wiley, 23, of Baltimore, was southbound on I-795 when it crashed into the rear of a 2005 Ford F350 pickup truck.
Both trucks spun into the grass median, where each struck the metal cable barrier and traveled into the northbound lanes of I-795. The Ford F350 pickup crashed head-on into 2017 Toyota Rav4. A fourth vehicle, a 2016 Toyota Corolla, crashed into debris from the other crash. The driver of the Rav4, identified as Kaitlin Elizabeth Stranick, 30, of Hanover, Pennsylvania, was declared dead at the scene by Baltimore County Fire Department emergency medical services personnel. The driver of the Ford F350, a 23-year-old man, was taken to an area hospital for treatment. The drivers of the other two vehicles were not hurt, state police said.
